New-build Hempcrete house in South West Scotland

This new-build dwelling located in Galloway, Scotland, has been designed to best blend in with the surrounding landscape with wide openings to the river side of the house framing the views on the nearby hills.
The client's strong interest in eco building and the use of natural materials has lead to the highest carbon responsible choices in terms of materials and energy sources. It is a timber frame construction with 400 mm Hempcrete walls, lime rendered internally and externally to ensure the breathability of the building. Wood fibre has been used for the roof insulation and locally sourced Douglas fir for the timber cladding.
Thanks to the installation of an Air Source Heat Pump and integrated solar panels in the roof alongside the triple glazing and the high insulation levels the house achieves a very low annual net energy usage.
