OLD MILL RENOVATION

Conversion of a derelict watermill into dwelling. The main aim was to retain as much as possible of the existing buildings and to apply other environmental objectives in a pragmatic way, within a relatively tight budget.

- Watermill conversion. Crossgar, County Down. Works started in 1992.

HEMP COTTAGE

This new-build dwelling combines innovative and sustainable building construction, with a modern vernacular design which is responsive to its rural context. It is a one bedroom house of approx 70m2 and it was originally designed for a 90 year-old.

- Timber frame with hemp & lime. Crossgar, County Down. Completed in 2009.

THE NARROWS

An intrigate mixed development of new buildings and conversion of existing house and barn to create a 13 bedroom hotel in the heart of a conservation area. This project stitched together old and new and achieved great accessibility through layout and detail design. The clients encouraged the use of re-cycled materials and low toxicity paints.

- Hotel and Restaurant, Portaferry.
